LEAGUE AWARDS & HONORS
Over the years, so many players, coaches, and supporters have helped make Rohnert Park Cal Ripken Baseball what it is today. Our awards and honors are one way we remember some of those people. We want to share a little about who they were and what they meant to our league.
Jerry Gillespie
“Papa Jerry” Gillespie devoted his life to coaching and nurturing young baseball players in Petaluma and Rohnert Park. Through his coaching with Rohnert Park Cal Ripken, he helped young players develop a love of the game and took great joy in watching them continue playing through high school and college. Jerry passed away on April 9, 2009, after a battle with cancer.
Drew Williams
Drew “Doobie” Williams played on the Reds in the Minor division of Rohnert Park Cal Ripken Baseball and was part of the 1995 All-Star team. He passed away in September 1995.
Drew was an exceptional athlete in multiple sports, but what really stood out was his attitude. He listened to his coaches and paid attention at practice. He was kind to everyone, even his opponents. He was humble and never a show-off, but he definitely knew how to have a good time. He was a great teammate all around.
Aaron Gatton
Aaron Gatton was a younger brother who was always looking forward to playing baseball. He was a familiar face at the fields where his brothers played. In his honor, the league established an annual scholarship that gives one player on each Peewee team a $100 credit toward the following season’s registration.
Robert Fay
Robert might be one of the most well-known figures in the Rohnert Park baseball community. From the early 2000s through 2026, you could hear him at A1 and B1 calling, “Hit, boy, hit!” and “Mama, your boy is up!” Robert also helped kick off our season on Opening Day by saying, “Play ball!” He passed away in 2026, but our community will never forget him.
